Arctic trial voyage: exploring another logistics option for Europe

The Arctic route between Busan and Europe is testing container-shipping potential. PanStar Acro departed Busan New Port on a Northeast Passage trial on 22 Aug 2026. JMTC considers this development as a potential additional choice for Europe-bound shippers.
The Northeast Passage connects Asia and Europe through waters north of Russia. The ministry’s published trial plan names Felixstowe, Rotterdam and Gdansk as European calls. These are planned calls; actual arrivals and bookable sailings must be checked with the carrier.
The attraction is the potential for a shorter distance and greater route choice. Transit depends on ice, weather, vessel speed, port waiting and call order. Check the specific sailing and final destination and compare with the Suez route on equal terms.
Shippers need more than an ocean-transit comparison: cargo readiness to final delivery, available space, accepted commodities, inland costs and insurance cover all matter. A shorter distance alone does not guarantee lower total cost or emissions.
JMTC Arctic Europe is a consultation service reviewing Europe-bound alternatives against trial information and actual booking conditions. We check sailing schedules and cargo acceptance during consultation. Share origin, destination, description, quantity, weight and readiness date to compare with existing routes.
